Marc travels into the California desert to meet Paul Krassner, who represents about a half century of counter-culture comedy. Paul talks about his writing in The Realist magazine and his work with Lenny Bruce, giving context to the tumult (and humor) of the 1960s. And, as an added bonus, Paul recounts the time he acid-tripped with Groucho Marx.

    Steve: Paul Krassner is one of the most relevant and influential people to modern American humor and we are lucky he is alive to tell his amazing stories. You can choose not to recognize this because of your ignorance of or disdain for the era he's from and ideas he espouses, but your shortfalls don't detract from his amazing legacy. Famous or not, he has helped shape modern satire to a huge degree and this is simply a fact, not my opinion. he is not 'just a man' like you or me-- he is way more interesting, intelligent, talented and motivated than you, and certainly more motivated than me :)

    Sorry man, I just don't think any man (or era) should be idealized/idolized. Krassner is not a great man; he's only a man.

    Wow, did my comment get nixed or just lost in the e-ther? Huh. (Was it that I drew attention to the fact that the first comment on deck after a counter-culture interview involves a list of people worth shooting?) If this one makes it through, I should also like to add that I enjoyed Krassner's sense of humor. "Remember pubic hair?" even caught Marc napping.

    Very interesting interview! Enjoyed it a lot. Agree that "dropping acid with Groucho" is classic.

    i'm still sort of reeling from the amazing Carl LaBove episode. this was quite nice. Krassner has a really cool book well worth reading

    ". . . i think the Viet Cong should get SOME credit . . ." Great show Marc - I'm a bit of an old hippy so i found it very interesting. Now you need to track down Gilbert Shelton and interview him . . . i would love to hear the inside story of the Rip Off Press . . .

    Why is it will all that is going on in America that we have no true counter culture today? Hoffman once said, "Avoid all needle drugs, the only dope worth shooting is Richard Nixon." Good god, how the list has grown.
