WTF with Marc Maron Podcast
May 17, 2010 22

If only we could make the advisory that says EXPLICIT say SUPER-DUPER SOFA KING EXPLICIT next to this episode. Comedian and Opie & Anthony regular Jim Norton talks about... well, we'll let him tell you. And we'll let Marc tell you about two sordid nights from his past that he never thought he'd speak about in public.

pretty sure norton said he wasn't into shit, so meulens whole argument goes down the toilet.

Oh, he\'s so \"honest\". He\'s another faux-confessional idiot whose whole schtick is to talk about how he\'s a crappy person and does crappy things. How BRAVE.

Oh, wait, I mean his whole schtick is to talk about how he\'s a crappy person and does crappy things so people will say \"how BRAVE\". But bravery has nothing to do with it, because he never puts himself at any risk... he knows that people are suckers for this kind of \"confessional\" garbage.

You know who else is equally honest on stage? People who AREN\'T crappy people, rarely or never do crappy things, and then go up there and talk about those (not-crappy) things on stage. And you know what? I think those people have a lot more authority (comedically and otherwise) than the scum of the earth do... if Norton has so many worthwhile things to say, why hasn\'t he been able to keep himself from being a pathetic jerk?

I enjoyed the interview, but I think Jim was being more than a little disingenuous on the Tea Bagger thing and the profiling thing. As one of your (presumably) few black listeners, for a white man to tell me to be OK being singled out because I\'m essentially unlucky enough not to be like him is not cool. And if a group suddenly emerges has a problem with taxes NOW and not during the Bush Admin., the problem is obviously who\'s spending it and on what. Fighting history and karma must be quite a struggle for these people.

Hard to believe that Norton believes the likes of Ed Meese, John Ashcroft and Dr. Dobson protect his First Admendment rights more than \"liberals.\"

A case of the clap must have migrated to his brain.

    Funny guy otherwise.

isnt this a fake jim norton interview? A lot of what he says is straight from his standup material? But check this..I follow jim on twitter and regularly forward his tweets to my friend. He is a bigger norton fan than me. So upon hearing this podcast and NOT knowing jim\'s material, I called my friend the EARLY the next morning to explain wtf I had just heard. My friend was unaware of WTFpodcasts. I was explaining how jim admitted to trannny hookers and gay sex as a child, so my friend interrupts with \"huh, thats weird because he says almost the exact same thing in his act.\" So hearing my friend tell me that, and knowing marc\'s previous fake interviews, I am further puzzled after reading all of your comments. NOONE has yet to claim this as a fake. Anyone think its fake or what? Hilarious regardless!

Great podcast. Profiling does not work. Even if it did, it would be a violation of civil rights; it\'s telling a portion of Americans, \"for your whole life, we\'re going to assume you\'re a criminal based on your ethnic appearance.\" Fuck that shit.

Almost all that bullshit is based on cowardice; people think we can\'t deal with terrorist criminals and still keep the Bill of Rights. Fucking cowards.

The Teaparty idiots lend themselves to ridicule because they have no coherent agenda, and they say absolutely ridiculous things that bear no relation to reality.

Interesting listening to Jim\'s views on sex..shame about his politics though..
I\'m not sure I can take any more comics being interviewed. Wish Marc would get back to politics..

hey Rachel, I can\'t speak for Marc but I get the feeling from his podcasts that he was never really into the politics thing but had to do it for so long because of his affiliation with Air America, which was a politically based talk radio station.

Jim raises an interesting point, is it okay to be fucked up if you admit it? It seems his entire act is a very complicated way of taking the piss out of people who might call him a fucked up sexual deviant, which he is. But who am I to judge? And yeah, tea party is not about taxes, it\'s about a knee jerk reaction to the government actually trying to help people, which for some reason pisses some them off tremendously.

Jim Norton -- A Loud Angry White Male -- that actually thinks his POV is Unique. Note to Jim Norton, You aren\'t unique, You are abysmally normative and representative of Your type. Attempting to cover Your ignorance with claims of \"I am just being truthful\" is indicative of nothing more than simple laziness.

Incredible podcast. It\'s so refreshing to hear a guy willing to talk so candidly about his sex life. Norton obviously knows that his mind was \"scrambled\" at a young age, but he seems totally at peace with it.

See- THIS is why Maron\'s a better interviewer than Carolla. Maron has this uncanny ability to climb inside a guest\'s head and get them to reveal things they usually keep pretty close to the vest.

Sorry Marc, as much as I respect Norton\'s raw honesty and courage -- shit, you HAVE to be courageous to talk about the issues he discusses -- he\'s completely off-base in his defense of Imus\' \"nappy-headed hos\" comment. As a black woman, I don\'t know ANYONE who interpreted the comment as \"gee, a white guy using black hip-hop slang -- how arch.\" Perhaps that was Imus\' intent, but without necessary context it came across as mean and racist. Similarly, the follow-up comment of \"jigaboos and wanna-bes\" might have been a reference to Spike\'s School Daze, but honestly, how many of Imus\' listeners would have understood the reference? Norton comes across as someone with whom I might disagree with politically, but his good intentions are clear and I have no beef with him whatsoever. I just think he\'s flat wrong on this one.

A great, provocative show, as always.

Jim was quick to dismiss the notion of the tea-baggers being racist by saying that they are just protesting higher taxes. The fact is that taxes have gone down during the Obama administration, so I don’t understand the logic there.

Didn\'t they base the movie \'8mm\' on Norton?

that was a GREAT discussion about censorship. i just recently started listening to O&A a few months ago and appreciate the brutal honesty on their show. people should be less concerned with \'right\' and \'wrong\' and focus more on telling the truth
