After 218 episodes, it takes a lot for a guest to surprise Marc with his candor and sensitivity in a Cat Ranch interview. Norm Macdonald is able to do just that as he discusses his career accomplishments and the darker side of his personality that threatened everything he had achieved. It's funny how Norm comes across as if he's some kind of uneducated dufus when I doubt that very much. His brother is probably the top foreign ciorrespondent for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation and is obviously a smart guy too. I guess there's some story there but only meant to say that I've always thought that there was more to Norm than met the eye - and now I now there is.
Great stuff.
Thanks!
I don't think you'll hate him if you listen to the show. (It most certainly did not suck.)
I had nothing against Norm, but your comment reminds me of my reaction to the Adam Carolla show: "I think I'll pass". Fortunately I didn't pass, and while I'm certainly not a converted Carolla-tard or anything, I think I have some sort of understanding of Corolla as a human being who I can respect even if I don't find him very entertaining. Bobby Lee was a similar experience for me. Of all the things WTF does this is the rarest and most valuable. Marc once said something (referring I believe to his own career -- seems like a safe bet) along the lines of: "Who knows what turns someone into an entity in people's minds?" I think I've figured it out. WTF. It's introduced me to a lot of folks I didn't know in a way that they've stuck in my mind, and it's re-introduced me to people I thought I knew and really humanized them.
