WTF with Marc Maron Podcast
Jul 7, 2011 24

While in Brooklyn, Marc sat down with Todd Hanson, one of the original writers for The Onion, who is responsible for some of the smartest, funniest satire of the past two decades. But something went unspoken during that conversation, which prompted a second discussion several months later about a major event in Todd's life. This episode is sponsored by IFC Films, presenting The Trip and Salvation Boulevard.

Thanks so much for this podcast, and I'm relieved and happy to hear Todd is slowly putting things back together. I applaud his bravery-- I'm a depression sufferer with some cutting and deep suicidal thoughts in my past (although thankfully I'm far from that now), but I'm very much in the closet when it comes to my own story-- maybe a handful of people know I suffer from depression, and no one knows about my scars. The courage of people like Todd to be public about their personal battles with depression shows a courage they I hope to achieve one day. Thanks again, it was touching and inspiring, even.

The story for me was "Not Knowing What Else To Do, Woman Bakes American-Flag Cake". That came at me just after I'd organized an office blood drive to aid the rescue effort...before we knew there was no need.

Fantastic podcast. Between the Onion and Adult Swim and all of the other wonderful comedy Todd has brought us, I have to agree with Mark in that I also am thrilled that he's still around and making us laugh. Dude... a world without Dan Halen? I couldn't imagine it...

    Piss off Schad, you pinhead.
    Nothing exploitative about this.
A truly excellent episode, as everyone else has rightly said.

Huge contrast with the previous episode (Nick Thune).
    Stay away from Christians, Marc.
There's nothing good for you there.

I too want to start with wow. Since my own failed suicide I've been amazed at how often my favorite media has forced me to further process my feelings about it. However, all the movies and TV episodes featuring someone putting a gun in their mouth cannot compare to Todd's raw revelations. Thank you, Todd. May we never again be so selfish.

Ummm, thanks Marc. It's been three years of denial and this interview has at least pushed my depression to the forward of my mind, as something that needs to be dealt with.
