WTF with Marc Maron Podcast
Oct 6, 2011 11

Instead of making meth in Marc's garage, Bryan Cranston has a conversation about what led him to the role of Walter White in Breaking Bad. Along the way he almost became a cop, he was briefly wanted for murder, and he went broke making a labor of love. Plus, Bryan teases Marc with some tidbits about the Breaking Bad season finale. This episode is sponsored by Adam and Eve.

The way Cranston talks about writing scripts somehow gives me impression that he hasn't figured it out himself yet. He seems to try to create a script by looking at what mistakes other scriptwriters made, and avoid those. But that doesn't give you a good script. He seems to be a little bit too involved in the form of a script and character development, rather than in the actual content. Too theoretic. Marc also seems to be a bit unimpressed by his ramblings on "how to write a correct script".

When I was married, my wife badgered me into going to church with her. So I was sitting around at this stupid church, and started talking with a lady about cars. She suddenly said, "I have a red Vulva!" I was pretty sure she meant a Volvo, but to hedge my bets I said, "Does it have a lot of miles on it?"

Not that I'm disagreeing in any way with the notion of broadening the guest pool, but even if WTF was strictly a comedy ghetto, BryCran's years on Malcom in the Middle would definitely qualify him for inclusion.

Such a great show. I can't think of anywhere else that you can get long form interviews like this. Its so refreshing in a world of packaged messages and commercial friendly clips. Getting to hear two interesting people sit down and have a free flowing in depth conversation is truly special. Keep up the great work Marc! As much as I love the world of comedy its great to hear from a broader range of guests. See you next month in Seattle!

Super interview! Like Inside the Actor's Studio without the pompous host :) Keep 'em coming!

Great episode. Love Breaking Bad, Love Cranston, Love WTF. Was a great hour spent learned some things about Cranston I wasn't aware of. Very cool guy who seems to have a great outlook on just about everything based on this interview. And W O W at the Breaking Bad last episode this season semi spoiler. Makes me even more excited for the season finale coming up in a few days.

    Great interview... interesting guy.

I think this is a good idea for Marc to expand to interviewing interesting people period. Probably most of them will be in the Entertainment industry and that's just fine. Keep up the good work.

p.s. I'm looking forward to Anthony Bourdain (after the hint you left a week or so ago) and would still like to hear Billy Connolly :-) ..

At first I was wondering why you were interviewing non-comics, then I realized you can interview whoever the fuck you want and I'm actually really starting to dig the fact that you're branching out.

HOLY FUCK, amazing interview and awesome teasers about the finale... Only problem now is that there's three whole days of intensified withdrawl waiting for it, as if it wasn't bad enough! Why did you do that to us Marc?
