WTF with Marc Maron Podcast
Jan 13, 2011 15

As far as life on the Internet goes, Rob Corddry grabbed the brass ring. He talks to Marc about how his web series "Children's Hospital" got turned into an honest-to-goodness television show. They also discuss the finer points of clown classes, what it was like to be a Daily Show correspondent, and how crazy Oliver Stone really is.

Anyone know the name of the band & song that was played between the monologue and the interview?

I just, reluctantly, dLed this episode. Can't say I like Corddry very much. He seems creepy to me. Dude has a dark side, I'm sure. He probably tortures small animals for fun in his spare time. I guess I'll save this podcast for when I get really, really bored.

Love WTF and love Rob Corddry, but found myself getting impatient with the efforts to get Corddry to dish about fellow comedians/actors, e.g., Ed Holmes, John Cusack, etc. Marc is great at extracting great nuggets from his interviewees and wonderful moments of candor... but the gossip mongering elements ruined this one a bit for me.

Now I really want to watch "Childrens Hospital". Good show.

So David Mamet expects actors to be wooden? Guess that explains why he keeps putting his mannequin-faced wife in movies.

I also hope saying Corddry is "less complicated" than some other guests isn't a failure on his part. I won't lie, I liked Bobby Lee's story and how messed up it was in parts. But I like how comedians/artists/people can be informed by such wildy different things. Well adjusted or otherwise. It show in and of itself how complicated humans are.

    Dear Cat_Fancier,

Guilty as charged. I really don't care much about Marc's "recovery" in this instance. I'm sure Smith is even a fun guy, obviously not a dolt, but I just can't stand his work or his attitude. And it is a silly precedent to set. Smoke when Marc comes to YOUR garage. But apologies for hijacking Corddry's comments thread this way: good interview, that one.

Must start meditating myself... ("Kevin Smith, what a lazy sack of..." -- POP!)

This is one the most entertaining episodes you've done, Marc. Corddry might be a bit less complicated than some of your subjects but the stuff about New England and (shudder) the clowning classes was terrific.

No reason?! He felt like getting high, isn't that reason enough? Besides, when's the last time you heard of anyone, anywhere addicted to pot, least of all Maron? Cool it with the recovery jargon--seems like everyone's over their troubles and doing well enough without your bromides.

And here I'd always gotten the impression that Kevin Smith was an asshole. Sounds like that impression was dead wrong. Coming to a recovering addict's home and smoking up for no reason -- what a mensch.

    ". . . as humans we are literally bathed in feces . . ."

Winkler in Arrested was genius! Great episode Marc.
Looking forward to the Kevin Smith interview - curious to know what you and the wind-bag chatted about.

Marc, getting a file not found error-to paraphrase a far greater comedic mind than mine, WTF?

Typically engaging interview...and remarkable how much of a flashback to my New England childhood I get when the free-floating hostility (largely from various flavors of puritanism, I suspect, combined with a whole lot of poverty, if not recently, then only a generation or two back) and various forms of clannishness and provincialism are mentioned...sarcastic without being funny is pretty dead on. Thanks.
